Tree Lighting Ceremony –
A Chilly Night To Remember!

The 2005 annual Cornell Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on one of the coldest nights of the year. And the event did not go off without a hitch – but somewhere between the flyers that weren't delivered on time, tents that were destroyed in high winds, a frozen sound system, and many freezing fingers, cheeks and toes – everyone had a great night!
With a turnout that we estimated to be somewhere around 200 chilly, happy people, including Santa Claus himself – who could complain!
The festivities began with the students of Cornell Village Public School and MindTech Montessori singing ‘A Grown Up Christmas List’. It’s a beautiful song that delivers a message of peace and unity for all, a feeling everyone can appreciate at this time of year.
After the wonderful music, the tree lighting countdown began and our tree was light! The crowd sang carols and warmed up with hot chocolate, cookies and other treats. Santa Claus found some time to hand out candy canes and chat with the children before he was due back at the north pole.
The evening spent together celebrating with our neighbours made us feel the real spirit of Christmas – peace, harmony and a sense of community truly found in Cornell.
Thanks to everyone who brought unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army. And many thanks to Mattamy who generously funded the event and to Coffee and Co. who donated hot chocolate and the use of their café.
Happy Holidays To Everyone!![]()
