The Cornell Residents Association
Your Official Voice of Cornell

VISION: To offer the most desirable community living experience in the GTA

MISSION: To maintain and improve the community living experience in Cornell through involved representation to policy makers and stakeholders. To facilitate enhanced social interaction among the residents of Cornell.

The Cornell Residents Association (formerly the Cornell Rate Payers Association) was established with the help and encouragement of Ward Councilor, Jack Heath. Cornell had many growing pains and needed a way to bridge the gap between builders, the town and residents. The residents wanted to create a unique and inviting place to live, a place that met the vision we all bought into.

Those of you who bought from the original sales centre located at Hwy #7 and McCowan Road, the full screen video featuring Michael Burgess sold us instantly. We knew this would not become just another subdivision. Instead we chose to live in a community that would take us back to the days when people cared about their neighbours. Andres Duany was the Urban Planner who created the vision for Cornell. It would take hard work and commitment from the residents to see this vision through. So Jack sent out an invitation to the community asking for volunteers to help "kick start" Cornell and thus the Cornell Rate Payers Association (now the CRA) was born!

The CRA's Commitment

We’ve worked towards many causes since then and always maintained our commitment to doing the best we can. We have also started some fantastic community events; the Annual Cornell Picnic, Annual Golf Tournament, Christmas Caroling and the community wide Garage Sale – just to name a few.

The amount of hours put in by the CRA Board is outstanding. It is strictly done on a volunteer basis and over the years we've had many wonderful people in the community involved. The board is a diverse group with varying backgrounds and viewpoints, although this has made for a few rather interesting meetings, it has always brought forth insight and understanding that works.

The CRA has dealt with York Region Transit and their proposed bus loop, low-income housing and traffic problems to name a few. We've been directly involved in the planning of some of our new parks and regulary work with builders and the Town on new growth. The CRPA works with and supports Cornell's public schools, its events and programs.

Keeping Cornell Informed and Involved

Communication is key to our success. We can't help with a problem if we aren't aware of it. If you have an issue you feel will impact this community, please bring it forward. Contact information for every CRA Board member is listed here.

The CRA keeps residents and members informed of local community issues and events through this website (, email bulletins, the Bulletin Board in the Mews Park and through periodic Canada Post mail-outs.

The CRA is a non-profit group of volunteer residents who make a big difference to the quality of 'community' in Cornell. The board relies on resident support to operate - please take a moment to become a member today ($5/yr). We appreciate your support.
